One Night Only! Miss Clara Louise Kellogg

According to what I've been able to find in regards to Clara Louise Kellogg, she retired from singing in 1887 which means the playbill pre-dates 1887.  At the bottom it says Union City Times so I'm assuming this was the opening night performance for the new opera house in Union City Tennessee. :)

In addition to Clara Louis Kellog the other members of the company were Miss Carrie Morse, Mr. Henry Dickmann, Mr. William H. Lee and Mr. Charles E. Pratt.  Reserved seats $1.00, on sale at Polk's Drug Store Monday, November 3d.

Clara Louise Kellogg was an American Opera Singer born 1842 in South Carolina.  From an early age she enjoyed singing and playing the piano. The Kellog family moved to Connecticut when she was about five years old and moved again in 1857 to New York where she began studying voice at age 14.  She made her professional debut in Pittsburgh in 1860 as a "utility singer."    The following year she made her first appearance as Gilda in "Rigoletto."  She continued to have a successful career as a soprano travelling back and forth between Europe and the United States.  She married Carl Strakosh in 1886 and the following year retired as a professional singer.  She died May 3 1861 from Cancer in New Hartford, Connecticut.

Miss Pinner, Huntingdon Tennessee

The Moran family were a musical bunch.  Sophia Gunn Moran was a music teacher at Dresden before she married J.W. Moran.   At least two of the Moran children inherited their mother's musical skills, Fannie and Ida.  Fannie was the singer in the family while Ida was the accomplished pianist.  It's difficult to say if any of the women in the picture are Morans.  There's a possibility that the woman on the back row, second from the right, is Fannie.  

I'm taking a leap and going to say that Miss Pinner is the older woman on the far right holding the baton.  Usually the name imprinted on a photograph is the photographers mark but in this case it might just be the name of the main subject.  It was taken in Huntingdon, Tenn.  

A search of the usual sources came up empty handed for a Miss Pinner in Tennessee.

Judge Moran Scott, 1863 - 1925

Here's cousin Moran Scott, son of Rufus Franklin Scott and Martha Helen Moran.  He was born in 1863 in Texas.   He attended the University of Texas and in September 1883 matriculated to the law department at Gainesville Texas. (Austin Weekly Statesman Sept 20 1883).  Judge Scott was a member of the Gainesville Rifles with the rank of Lieutenant.  He was married to Kittie Hall and it doesn't appear that they had any children.  Judge Scott died in 1925 and was interred at Rose Hill Cemetery in Ardmore Oklahoma.
