Out West with C.H. Moran ca. 1900

Brud took a lot of trips for pleasure and because of his health.  This particular trip was with a group of friends who went out west.

I don't know who is who but here's the list of names written on the back:. Some of the names I wasn't sure of the spelling, hence the ?
Miss HARRISON, Miss YOUNG, Miss LAMONDS(?), Mrs. LONG, Mary C. ALLEN, Dr. MOORE, Mr. HILL, Mr. JORDON, Mr. O'BROWN, Mr. WILSON(?), Miss Julia YOUNG

Here's the backside of the photograph.  Perhaps someone else will be able to decipher Brud's handwriting.

I love this photo of an unknown couple.  I don't know if they are looking at geysers or hot springs but the smoke or steam in the area leads me to believe it's one or the other.  Whatever it is they are gazing intently.

Here's Brud, on the left side, with some of his friends.  Does this picture look like an early color photo to anyone else?

Athletic Carnicus 1939 University of TN Marting

I told you the Moran's kept everything.  Here is a newspaper clipping from the Memphis Commercial Appeal dated March 2, 2939.  I'm assuming that Dorothy JACKSON and Joe BELL were probably friends of Nathan Harrell MORAN.  Nathan attended the University of Tennessee at Martin so it's a good assumption on my part!

Miss Dorothy JACKSON of Dyersburg TN will reign as queen and Joe Bell of Gleason TN as king at the annual Athletic Carnicus at the University of Tennessee Junior College at Martin tomorrow night.

From Dancing to Earthquakes Just that Quick

I came across an invitation for Fannie Moran to attend the W.C.G. Dance in Atlanta Georgia dated January 3d, 1890.  Enclosed with the invitation was a calling card from J.A. Rogers Jr that said "Will I see you next summer?"

at the residence of Mr. Wm. Hawks (possibly Hanks)
220 Washington Street,

Atlanta GA

Donald Loyless, Chairman

Walter Howard

John A. Rogers was the son of John A Rogers Sr and Martha Elizabeth Hawkins.  His sister Mary Boyd Rogers married James A. "Bump" Irvine making John Rogers Jr a cousin of Fannie Moran and perhaps a romantic interest since he was asking her to the dance.

He was born in 1872 and died March l0, 1933.  He didn't marry Fannie, I don't even know if she attended the dance with him.  He ended up marrying someone named Vera F.  I've tracked him and Vera from Tennessee to Denver Colorado and finally they ended up in the Long Beach California area which was not such a good thing because John and his wife Vera perished in the 1933 Los Angeles/Long Beach Earthquake.  115 people lost their lives and countless others were injured.

It always amazes me how I can pick up something as innocent as a dance invitation only to find that some of the people involved died in horrific circumstances.
