McKendree M.E. Church, South, in Nashville Tennessee has played a variety of roles in the Moran family. There have been weddings and funerals and family memberships. Manie Campbell Hatton, daughter of Confederate General Robert Hatton and Sophie K. Reilly, was a member of McKendree. Sophia Ezzell, grand-daughter of Captain John W. Moran, had a grand wedding ceremony at McKendree in November 1919 when she married Matthew Dobson. The McKendree Church held a special place in the family, so much so that Virginia Shumate Moran kept this postcard in a folder with her children's school reports, letters, and other family items she held dear.
Moran Place is located in Dresden,TN. Built by John Williamson Moran for his wife Sophia Riley Gunn. The house used a modified design of George Barber's Cottage no. 36 from his Cottage Souvenir Book No. 2. Construction began in 1895 but was put on hold when Sophia Moran became ill. She died Oct. 7 1895. A few months after her death construction resumed. This blog is about the history of the Moran family & their life at Moran Place. Money is fleeting, History is forever.
